THEATER
Braempraat
In 1968, the architect Renaat Braem wrote 'The most ugliest land in the world', an indictment against the way we build Belgium. He uses urbanisation and architecture as a base to be able to damn society, politics and mankind. With humor as cement, he created lecture that can't be torn down.
Dimitri Leue crawls into the skin of Renaat Braem.
Steven Taelman uses melodies, compositions and studio techniques from 1968 and blends it all together with a modern twist.
Filip Dujardin will show you through his pictures how Belgium is "beautiful in being ugly" but also "ugly in being beautiful".
BULK architects made the decor, which is the rear facade of the house of Renaat Braem.
About the music
“Het Lelijkste Land Ter Wereld” was written in 1968, therefore I did some research to wrap the music in a ‘68 atmosphere. I used old studio techniques and sampled from records, movies, speeches, musicals & radio messages found in archives and catalogues. Since ‘68 is 50 years ago, I mingled everything and added my own flavors to compose something new with it.
